Day # 1: GCE L2 Reflection

Day #1
Day 1 of Google Level 2 Certification went great! We began by creating a Google Slide presentation that showcased our knowledge of Google Slides. Here I shared out my favorite place to vacation, Walt Disney World. One thing I began thinking about was that I don't have any vacation pictures in my Google Drive folder for an easy drag and drop experience. Perhaps I could have jumped in the Google Drive App on my phone and pulled in previous vacation photos that way.

Next we spent some time working in Google Maps and My Maps. Our district doesn't have My Maps turned on for our students but I can see the power behind it. Chris had us add our link to the above Google Slides Presentation into a Google Form that also asked us to put in the City, State, and Country of our favorite vacation destination. He was able to import all of the data generated from this Google Form into a My Map. Everyone who was part of the training had their favorite vacation destination immediately "pin" dropped onto Chris' My Maps.  From here, we were able to edit our pins. I love the idea of having students add pins, edit information about the location and add additional pictures. this could be a powerful teaching tool.

Finally we discussed both Google Slides and Blogger. I love the new Google Sites interface. I've built sites in the old site view and always felt it was a bit clunky. The new sites interface is so smooth and user friendly. It would absolutely allow students to build out Google Sites in a quick and efficient way.  I've began building a Google Portfolio to showcase what I've learned in this Google Certification Training thus far. It is in its infancy so far.

Blogger is a tool I used to use all of the time in my classroom and during my graduate school work. We don't have it turned on for students in my district so I stopped using it and moved all of my work into our district LMS. Digging back through my old files shows some of the power behind Blogger. It is refreshing to be back.

Chris did a great job of moving at an appropriate pace to get us learning all that we need to know for the upcoming Level 2 certification exam. I feel confident in the skills spoken about today. Thanks, Chris!
